About Faye Cape Lee

Faye Cape Lee was a very interesting child, young girl and woman, born Johnny Faye Taack in 1917, on the flat, rich farmlands of west Texas. She treasured each and every plaything she had, especially the few dolls that came her way. At six, Santa brought her a beautiful life size By Lo Baby, dressed in a lovely Christening gown with pink ribbons and bows. Faye adored her and carried her everywhere….. Which, led to her demise as she didn’t clear the door frame one winter afternoon and her head was irreparably smashed! She never forgot this loss and it led to many interest and decisions later in her life.

As she grew older, she had a few tiny dolls from the 5&10cent store. At twelve, her mother said she was growing too old for dolls, but bought her a composition doll, (Flossie Flirt) doll. But, Faye never warmed up to this “grown up” doll and continued to love the bisque babies the best!

In the spring of 1946, married with two young sons and farming with her husband, Bill, Faye saw an ad in the Progressive Farmer magazine, to which they subscribed for $1 for 10 years! In the ad she read there was a doll hospital in Minneapolis that was selling “Life Size By-Lo’s" for, $30, smaller ones for $15 and $10. There was no way she could afford these prices! There was NO MONEY FOR DOLLS Period, but she borrowed $5 from her household money and sent for a closed mouth ‘Dream Baby”. She later traded this doll for a larger O.L. Amberg bisque baby doll with a 12” circumference head…dressed it beautifully, (she was an expert seamstress!) and the result was a lovely, larger baby doll for the original $5. So, Faye was on her way to a fascinating, exciting and successful adventure as a collector…And creator!

From beginning to end, they were her babies! She and her perfectionist talents certainly were highlighted in there lovely faces, tiny
Fingers and toes. She also created the most beautiful outfits for both, boys and girls dolls.

Over the years, Faye had collected hundreds of antique dolls and became a doll artist in her own right and created many more through her talents and love of dolls.
We, her family, have all chosen examples of her dolls to save and treasure…some antiques, some her own creations. We, wanted to share these dolls with other people, just as Faye loved dolls, she knew the excitement of finding another doll. We know this is what would make Faye happy.

FOR THE DOLL COLLECT0R THAT WANTS TO ADD TO THEIR COLLECTION. There are a lot of high quality antique dolls to pick from, along with many unique antiques. These dolls & items are all valued at approximately 25% under there appraised value. These dolls have been valued willing buyer willing seller prices so the collector will have value at time of sale.
